ALEX GUNNING wins gold for second time at International Mathematical Olympiad IMO2014

Melbourne teenage mathlete wins gold for second time at International Mathematical Olympiad A Melbourne student has achieved a perfect score at the International Mathematical Olympiad in South Africa, winning a gold medal for the second year in a row. Seventeen-year-old maths genius Alex Gunning, who is in year 11 at Glen Waverley Secondary College, was one of more than 500 contestants from 103 countries, all under 20, competing at the prestigious event in Cape Town. The event consisted of two four-and-a-half-hour exams, each with three questions. Alex was one of only three students to achieve the perfect score and win a gold medal. BRASIL BRILHA EM International Mathematics Competition for University Students 2014 21stIMC 2014 Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria 29th July - 4th August 2014

Brasília, 6 de agosto de 2014 – O Brasil conquistou 24 medalhas, sendo duas de ouro, 12 de prata e dez de bronze, na 21ª edição da Competição Internacional de Matemática para Estudantes Universitários (IMC, na sigla em inglês), realizada de 29 de julho a 4 de agosto, em Blagoevgrad, na Bulgária. As medalhas de ouro foram ganhas por Henrique Gasparini Fiúza do Nascimento, do Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA) de São José dos Campos (SP), e André Macieira Braga, da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), com 69 pontos cada, ficando na 36ª posição na classificação individual. A IMC, organizada pelo University College London em parceria com a American University in Bulgaria, é apontada como uma das maiores competições de estudantes universitários do mundo. A edição deste ano reuniu 324 participantes de 73 instituições de vários países. A delegação brasileira teve representantes das universidades de São Paulo (USP), da Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp), do ITA, da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), da UFMG, das universidades federais do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), do Ceará (UFC), da Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) e do Instituto Militar de Engenharia (IME).
