Méthodes de maillage adaptatif pour la résolution des équations différentielles partielles : Application à la simulation des systèmes dynamiques
ABSTRACT This work deals with the numerical solution of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) in the presence of moving fronts along one or two spatial directions. Especially, we focus on spatial discretization methods on fixed or moving meshes for the convection-dominated systems in chemical engineering problems. In part I, fourteen discretization schemes on flexible stencils (fixed/adaptive/weighted stencils) within the fixed grid structure are compared in terms of stability, accuracy and temporal performance before using them within the moving mesh structure. The four of the 14 flexible stencil schemes tested are selected as the best methods compromised with the three criteria such as stability, accuracy and calculation time, using the multi-objective optimization concept. The WENO (Weighted Essentially-Non Oscillatory) scheme is particularly shown to be promising, since it dose not produce a spurious oscillation even near shocks and its numerical solution is accurate within a reasonable calculation time.

El viernes 10 de agosto el doctor César Camacho, director del Instituto de Matemáticas de Brasil junto con el director del Instituto de Matemáticas del Perú (IMCA), Félix Escalante, el profesor del IMCA, Jesús Abad Zapata y doce estudiantes de matemáticas que en los últimos años han ganado medallas de oro, plata y bronce en las Olimpiadas Mundiales de Matemáticas, visitaron la oficina de Don Alberto Benavides de la Quintana, presidente del Patronato de la UNI. A esta reunión también asistió el segundo vicepresidente del ProUni, el arquitecto Javier Sota Nadal.

Welcome to the Fifteenth International Conference on Hyperbolic Problems: Theory, Numerics and Applications – HYP2014. The objective
of the conference is to bring together scientists with interests in the
theoretical, applied, and computational aspects of hyperbolic partial
differential equations and of related mathematical models appearing in
the area of applied sciences. Highlight Topics include:
- Singular limits (zero-viscosity, relaxation, incompressible limit, semi-classical limits) and dispersive equations in mathematical physics.
- Nonlinear wave patterns in multi-dimensions.
- Particle/molecular dynamics (kinetic methods, passage from microscopic to macroscopic, numerical issues in transitional regimes, magneto-hydrodynamics).
- Theory and numerics of multiphases and interfaces (boundary layers, phase boundaries, multiphase wave propagation).

International Mathematical Olympiad 2014
The 55th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, from 3 to 13 July 2014.
The IMO is a problem-solving contest for high school students, held in a different country in July every year. The first IMO was held in Romania in 1959, with seven countries taking part. Today, more than 100 countries take part, representing over 90% of the world's population. The IMO is the oldest, biggest and most prestigious of all the international science Olympiads.
The 2014 IMO is presented by the South African Mathematics Foundation and will take place at the University of Cape Town. The event is endorsed by the Department of Basic Education and the Department of Science and Technology of the Republic of South Africa.
