In addition to the traditional material devoted to quantum solid-state physics, the book covers such issues as neutron scattering, the Mössbauer effect, metal-insulator transitions, plasma phenomena and other multielectron effects, and pseudopotential. Particular attention is paid to general issues of solid-state theory (the Schrödinger equation with a periodic potential, the self-consistent field approximation, the limits of applicability of band theory, and a number of others).
The presentation assumes knowledge of only the basics of quantum and statistical mechanics and does not use complex mathematical apparatus.
