During the period of the cold war between USSR and USA and while the race for space was on, a revision of the science program in USA occurred. Out of this revision many beautiful books to educate the young generations of scientists were written. In particular, in physics several monumental introductory textbooks appeared; among them are those written by Richard Feynman, Halliday and Resnick, Alonso and Finn and the Berkeley series on physics. It is great pity to see that these texts have fallen to oblivion although new texts are superficial and published only for monetary gains by the publishers.

Autor Edward J. Finn Recibió su B.S. del Colegio de la Santa Cruz, su M.S. de la Universidad Católica de América, y su Ph.D. de la Universidad de Georgetown, todo en Física. Actualmente es el director del Departamento de Física de la Universidad de Georgetown, donde comenzó como instructor en 1952. Es autor de numerosas publicaciones académicas y educativas, y es miembro del Comité Internacional de la Educación de la Asociación Americana de Profesores de Física
